Yvonne Brooks is a poet, photographer, editor, and host of McNally Jackson's popular Books & Art workshops. Pénélope also blogs, plays drums in a rock band, and watches lots of nature shows. Created by the French cartoonist Penelope Bagieu, Brazen is a bewitching book that chronicles the lives of amazing women. In that little of time, I knew that Brazen was something special. I took this book from my friend after five minutes of looking at it.

The series, called Les Culottées: Des femmes qui ne font que ce qu’elles veulent, has been extremely popular in the French market and was published as two volumes last year. Her latest work, Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked The World, is the result of a full year of work as Pénélope created short biographies of historical women in France. In America, her graphic novels include Exquisite Corpse and last year’s release California Dreamin’, a biography of Mama Cass. She is a French illustrator, comic artist, and bestselling graphic novel author her editorial illustrations have appeared throughout the French media. She has had over a decade of successes in comics with work such as La page Blanche, Cadavre Exquis, and her comic series Joséphine, that was not only a bestseller but was also adapted to film in 2013. Pénélope Bagieu was born in Paris in 1982 to Corsican and Basque parents.
